Cincinnati MD Resource Center Selected to Participate in Community Wealth Collaborative
After a rigorous application and selection process, the Cincinnati MD Resource Center, an initiative of the Health Improvement Collaborative of Greater Cincinnati (the Collaborative), has been selected to participate in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Community Wealth Collaborative (CWC). The CWC is an intensive 10-month business planning process designed to assist high-performing non-profits in developing and growing social enterprises to help sustain mission-based programs and services.
Launched in 2004, the Cincinnati MD Resource Center serves as a central repository of physician position openings, having played a key role in the recruitment and retention of more than 100 physicians to the Greater Cincinnati area since 2005. In addition to featuring the only website dedicated to bringing physicians to Greater Cincinnati (www.cincinnatiMDjobs.com), Resource Center representatives work with employers throughout the entire hiring process to recruit (or retain) physicians to Cincinnati. Additionally, the Resource Center provides an array of post-employment support.
Funded almost entirely by private contributions since its inception, in 2008 the Cincinnati MD Resource Center initiated a transition to a fee-for-service model, a model by which the Resource Center now generates revenues primarily from those who most benefit from its services -- hospitals and physician practices. During the 10-month CWC process, the CWC will assist the Collaborative in further developing the Cincinnati MD Resource Center as an earned income venture, with goals to increase financial self sufficiency and capacity to deliver services.
The CWC program is facilitated by Community Wealth Ventures, a Washington D.C.-based consulting firm that focuses on leveraging the power of market-based approaches to drive social change. In Greater Cincinnati, the CWC program is funded by several private contributors, including the Greater Cincinnati Foundation; The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./US Bank Foundation; Macy's Inc.; Manuel D. & Rhoda Mayerson Foundation; Ohio Valley Foundation; and Fifth Third Bank.
