Peters Receives Collaborative’s Volunteer Leadership Award

The Health Improvement Collaborative of Greater Cincinnati has named John C. Peters, PhD, head of the Nutrition Science Institute within the Food and Beverage Technology Division at Procter & Gamble, and CEO of the America On the Move Foundation, as a recipient of one of the Collaborative’s 2006 Volunteer Leadership Awards.

The award is given annually to individuals who have donated significant time and energy to furthering the Collaborative mission. Dr. Peters was presented with the award at the Collaborative’s fourth annual award dinner on Thursday, November 2 at the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati downtown. In attendance at the event were more than 400 of the Tristate’s community leaders, including health professionals, community service agency executives, hospital trustees, business representatives, public health officials, educators and citizens who have an interest in community health.

Dr. Peters has devoted his life to public/private partnerships and health initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles, and such dedication has, in part, helped the Collaborative in its own quest to make Tristate residents healthier. In his role at P&G, Dr. Peters has conducted and managed research in a variety of areas, including obesity, diabetes, lipid absorption and metabolism, and vitamin and mineral bioavailability. But as a member of the Collaborative’s Healthy Living/Healthy Weight Task Force, Dr. Peters Dr. Peters quickly became known as a co-founder of America On the Move, a national social change movement that encourages people to take small steps – moving more and eating less – to achieve better health. As CEO of the America On the Move Foundation, Peters has been an instrumental force in helping the Collaborative to launch and build a successful On the Move program in Ohio. As a member of the AOM in Ohio Board, he serves as a valuable resource and advocate, both locally and as the Collaborative expands the program throughout the state.

Dr. Peters received bachelor and doctorate degrees in Biochemistry from the University of California at Davis and the University of Wisconsin at Madison, respectively.

In addition to his position at P&G, Dr. Peters holds an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of medicine at the University of Colorado. He is also president of the Friends of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado, and past president of the International Life Sciences Institute Center for Health Promotion. He sits on scientific advisory boards of several other organizations, and has published more than 100 research papers, reviews, chapters and books.

Dr. Peters resides in West Chester, Ohio.
